Dear fellow gardeners,

What is this bug and WHY are there suddenly a million of them eating my tomato plants?  Anybody?

This is bagrada bug, a serious pest of cole crops. Their normal hosts of weedy mustards have all died and they are looking for food. They generally do not prefer tomato but will definitely lay eggs on them. You can use soapy water to knock them down. Be sure there are no weedy mustards around, they will also feed on corn.
